Who Needs the Produce Safety Rule?
Farms that grow, harvest, pack, or hold produce for human consumption may be subject to the Produce Safety Rule (21 CFR Part 112). Eligibility for exemptions and qualified exemptions depends on average sales and produce types.
Water Requirements
Agricultural water used for growing, harvesting, or cleaning must meet microbial quality criteria. Testing frequency and corrective actions depend on water source and use. See agricultural water testing for current requirements.
Soil Amendments, Wildlife, and Hygiene
Biological soil amendments of animal origin have treatment and application interval requirements. Controls for wildlife and domesticated animals, worker hygiene, and equipment sanitation are also required. Document training and implementation.
